Promintory Point

I walked the Bill Fill trail, and then some. The trail follows the old Central Pacific and Union Pacific rail beds. On the aerial picture below, the Big Fill, the Central Pacific grade, is on the left and the abutments for the Union Pacific trestle can be see on the right. From the trail, looking West, just West of the Big Fill. To the right is the CP grade, and down and to the left is the UP grade.

Imagine making these cuts in the rock with dynamite, pick and shovel.

This is taken standing on the UP grade, looking East, as the CP grade is the level grade to the left

Helper, UT Railroad & Mining Museum

Posting only the rail related picts. I took pictures (over one hundred pictures) of every piece of mine and railroad equipment they had.

These are Muckers that are on display at the wonderfull museum in Helper, UT. The first one is an 18" gauge unit and the second on is a 3' gauge.
These two are actually not at the Museum, but they are down the road at the Holiday Inn in Price, UT. They are 40" gauge.

Selling off some stuff

I have put a bunch of stuff up on the Yahoo group HOYARDSALE, and put pictures of all the items at http://www.flickr.com/photos/nvrr49/ . Just trying to make more room and get rid of things I will never use.

Also trying to finish a Diorama for the Turkcy Creek June contest and meeting.

4/27/09

Multi-tasking tonight. Watching the Royals and modeling.

I need some help on this one. Other than the fact that it is a Gilbert model and it is cast metal, I really don't know how to finish. Anybody with some instructions or pictures of finished please let me know, as I would like to have a copy. Note that the second panel from each end looks to be a door of some sort, or at least it is different than the other panels.

I believe this a a Varney. It is stamped sheet metal, that I weathered to add a little realism.

This is one of my favorites. It is a Megow kit, paper sides laminated to styrene, added top flange and posts also in styrene. Replaced the wooded bottom with 1/8" steel and glued scibed styrene to make a floor.

This Red Ball kit was assembled per the instructions, but I added detail parts based upon pictures of similar prototypes.

This is a Red Ball paper wrapper kit. I tried to match the orange color on the ends and painted the underframe black.

4/18/09

I am starting by posting pictures of some of the vintage cars I have built.

This is a Cannonball Car Shops flat styrene kit. painted, lettered and weathered.

Red Ball NYC Coal Gondola. Metal kit with Roundhouse Fox trucks. Painted, lettered, and weathered.

Varney paper side gondola. I laminated the paper sides and ends to styrene, then used CA to glue the sides and ends to a solid steel bottom (the car weighs in at over 5 oz.) I used the original trucks and underbody detail, what little there was, to keep some of the vintage look.

Varney Express Refrigerator car. I laminated the paper pieces to styrene and assembled to wood floor and roof. I added tissue paper to the roof for texture.
That's all for today, gonna go ride the new bicycle

I really am going to find time to write something regarding my model railroad, and post some pictures. I need to get some models ready for the NMRA MCOR regional in Wichita this summer.
